What is this game?
Scale Sleuth is a five-round, no-login estimation game. Compare a defined length or distance using Side by side, How many fit? or Journey line. The strip previews your estimate; the actual measurements remain hidden until you lock that round.
How to play
- 1Read the reference measurement and target dimension.
- 2Adjust the estimate with the slider, labelled step buttons or numeric input.
- 3Optionally mark one round as your Bold Call before locking.
- 4Lock the estimate, inspect the measurements and evidence, then select Continue for the next round.
Rules
- Each round starts at 1× and accepts estimates from 0.1× to 10×.
- Comparisons measure a single length, height, diameter or defined distance, never area or volume.
- A locked round cannot be revised and future answers stay hidden.
- Bold Call may be used once before locking; it changes no points.
Scoring
- An exact point estimate scores 100; half or double scores 50; quarter or four times scores 25.
- Supported measurement intervals score 100 anywhere within their valid ratio interval.
- Five round scores add to a total out of 500, with no timer bonus.
- A Bold Call round scoring at least 90 earns a separate badge.
Tips and strategy
- Make an initial estimate before reaching for precise numeric controls.
- Remember that twice as long is a length comparison, not twice the area.
- Use the text and numeric controls when the schematic is difficult to compare.
- After locking, read whether the source specifies nominal length, equatorial diameter or prescribed travel distance.
FAQ
Can I finish without using a slider?
Yes. Numeric entry and labelled increase/decrease buttons offer the same estimates.
Are the drawings shown at the true ratio?
No. Each schematic is independently normalised. The measuring strip shows your explicitly labelled estimate until the answer is revealed.
Can I replay without losing my Daily result?
Yes. Replay and practice stay separate from the first Daily result and do not require signup.
